In addition to being a good blogging platform WordPress can be used to store information that you may want to retrieve when away from your normal location but which you wish to prevent others from seeing.

In addition to the draft and published post status there is another status – private.

 

Posts marked private can only be seen by the author – this meets the need outlined above.

 

Next comes useability.  If you occassionally create private posts and put them in a new category – say ‘secret data’ the problem is that you cannot easily access all these posts in one place as the ‘secret data’ category will not show on your category listing.  This is because all the posts to the category are private.

 

The solution? …… create a single post, such as this, with no sensitive information which you can publish to the category.  This will not impact the private status of all the other posts in the category but will allow the category to show and be selectable so you can view all your private posts in one place.
